SFORpatch

Originally written in 2004, this piece never found a publication “home.” The new editor of Parameters was, unlike his predecessor, anti-Canadian while in Canada the journals were pre-occupied with Afghanistan topics. A slice of this wound up in Maclean’s. The importance of the topic is, however, historically significant and its importance self-evident. The Canadian Army, with helicopter support from Air Command, played a significant role in stabilizing Bosnia and particularly during the NATO SFOR endgame. The decade-long experience in that region seasoned a generation of Canadian troops in complex operations and without that experience, the Afghanistan campaign would have been even more problematic.
