Abstract:

This controversial article was published in the wake of a conference where the forces of “Soft Power” (ie: we can talk about problems, send aid and the problems will go away) led by the former foreign affairs minister Lloyd Axworthy were confronted by the Realist dissidents led by me. Attacked savagely by the establishment, the conference paper described that Canada strayed from its strategic traditions and was adoping UN-based policies that afforded the nation little or no benefit and put Canadians at risk for little or no reason. The argument in the paper ripped away the façade of altruism which the Department of Foeign Affairs had wrapped itself in. Needless to say, this was not apreciated by the media who had been taken in by those same characters…..
