Peacekeeping Intelligence (PKI) Conference 2003 "Complexities of Intelligence Operations in the Field: Some Recent Examples." Peacekeeping Intelligence: New Players, Extended Boundaries  
Abstract: The second annual Conference on Peacekeeping Intelligence was held in Ottawa, Canada from the 4th to 5th of December 2003. The conference was co-sponsored by Carleton University's Norman Paterson School of International Affairs' research departments the Canadian Centre of Intelligence and Security Studies (CCISS) and the Centre for Security and Defence Studies (CSDS), and Royal Military College of Canada's War Studies Program. This conference explored some controversial terrain: what is the delineation between information gathering by non-governmental organizations and intelligence gathering by government agencies and military forces in the field? I presented the keynote speech, entitled “Complexities of Intelligence Operations in the Field: Some Recent Examples” which resulted in the aggravation of the NGO representatives who were somewhat horrified by the realities of the situation on the ground, as it were. |
