Abstract:

The future of Afghanistan rests in the country’s ability to field effective national security forces. Canada has played a significant role in mentoring the Afghan National Army (ANA) since 2003. By 2008, the ANA was operating in battalion strength in Kandahar province. Strongpoint Mushan was a vital position that interfered with enemy activity in the region and the men from the Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team and their Afghan counterparts held that ground in the face of vast amounts of firepower directed at their positions.
