In 2014 I was asked by the Crown to be an expert witness at trial involving an Al Qaeda cell apprehended in Canada. As part of that process I explained to the court how the jihadist training systems in Afghanistan evolved prior to Operation ENDURING FREEDOM’s intervention in 2001. This piece evolved from that explanation and demonstrates not only how multi-faceted the jihadist effort was in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but indicates some of the planned events that were prevented by the take down of the Al Qaeda and allied facilities throughout Afghanistan. Indeed, this information is crucial in understanding why the OEF intervention took place and what the results of it were, something that requires significantly more study.
